ARTD 105A-E Studies in Northwest Native Art
For each credit students research and write a paper exploring some aspect of Pacific Northwest Coastal Indian art. Topics may include history and cultural significance, styles of representation, interpretation, artifacts, and artistic practices. (HT)
Outcomes
- Identify Northwest Coastal art forms.
- To apply formline design to art created by the student
- To understand the importance of the historical use of formline design and the impact it has had on numerous Tribes from Alaska to Washington State.
- To appreciate the perpetuation of this art form in a land where, every man is a painter and sculptor (Holm, 5).
- Convey specific information about history, cultural significance, styles of representation, interpretation, artifacts, and artistic practices.
- Gain an appreciation and awareness of the importance and cultural significance of Northwest Coast Native art.
