ENVS 105 Introduction to Environmental Science

Introduction to environmental concepts and dynamics. Ecosystems, biomes, management and human impact discussed. Parallel world views of the environment presented. Problems and solutions on different environmental issues considered. Lab included. (NSL)

Outcomes

  1. Specify, describe & explain the interrelationships between organisms and ecosystems.
  2. Specify and explain the structure and function of biomes (desert, grassland, savanna, tropical rainforest, temperate deciduous forest, taiga and tundra).
  3. Analyze the effects of abiotic and biotic (including human) influences on ecosystems.
  4. Specify and explain the fundamental concepts, terms, and trends related to populations of organisms, including humans.
  5. Compare and contrast the basic tenets of western environmental science with the traditional environmental knowledge of traditional, especially Native American societies
  6. Analyze the effects of humans as the dominant element of ecosystems with reference to historical, regional, political and economic factors.
