ECED 212 Observation, Documentation, and Assessment

Provides an introduction to formal and informal observation and assessment tools used in classrooms for children from birth to age eight. Designed to give the student a means of understanding the role of documentation in the development of curriculum and assessment that is responsive to a child's social, physical, emotional, and cognitive development. Prerequisite: ECED 101. (NE)

Outcomes

1. Demonstrate awareness of individual children and commitment to learning from them by observation.
2. Recognize and use at least five observation/assessment tools.
3. Apply at least five observation/assessment tools in the direct observation of a child.
4. Use and select an appropriate observation/assessment technique to collect data on a Child's development.
5. Identify at least three environmental factors that can influence the assessment process.
6. Recognize and value the impact of personal bias on the assessment process and its results.
7. Create at least one observation/assessment tool.
8. Identify three uses and three possible misuses of standardized tests.
9. Apply observation results in the curriculum decision making process.
