DRMA 210 Introduction to Cinema

Appreciating and analyzing film; includes historical survey and Native American films. Students learn film vocabulary, discuss ideas in class, and write analysis papers. Some discussion concerning the image of the American Indian in films. (HT)

  1. Identify the various major periods, personalities and films in the film history.
  2. Identify the progressive technical and narrative achievements and characteristics in major periods, personalities and films.
  3. Use appropriate technical vocabulary in identifying the various technical manipulations made possible by visual and audio equipment.
  4. Analyze the specific use and effects of technical manipulations.
  5. Analyze the contributions of acting, script, set, music and lights to the film narrative.
  6. Apply discerning, informed criteria in evaluating films.
